GIVEAWAY | March Goodies [CLOSED]

I can't believe it's almost April...seriously, time is just flying by! Anyways, I've got one more giveaway just before March ends, so here's what's up for grabs this week:

EVENT | Midnight MRKT

Last Friday, I checked out the Midnight MRKT, a cool pop-up style shopping event at 461 King St. West. The space featured lots of unique businesses, from baked goods and tater tots to vintage jewelry and graphic T-shirts. It had a great vibe, with music (Johnny Hockin was spinning when I popped by), lots of people, and free donuts.

The donuts:
These babies were free if you 'liked' the Giftagram Facebook page (also, entry to the event itself was free if you downloaded the Giftagram app)

The tunes:

EVENTS | The Shops at Aura

I love living downtown because there's always something cool going on somewhere nearby. Last week, The Shops at Aura launched a pop-up shop market, bringing in local, up-and-coming businesses to the lower floor of the AURA building at Yonge & Gerrard. It was a fun party, with a DJ, entertaining buskers, sweet treats, and drinks. The shops ran from March 19-22.

LOT Spring Preview + The Sound of Music GIVEAWAY! [CLOSED]

Earlier this month, I was invited to the Lower Ossington Theatre's spring preview party, where I got to mingle some talented people in Toronto's theatre scene in celebration of the season's upcoming productions: RENT, Avenue Q and The Sound of Music. It was a lot of fun! I've seen a couple different shows now at that theatre and I'm starting so see more familiar faces. (Check out my post from Cabaret & my interview with Avenue Q's Trekkie Monster)

Me with some of the awesome people of the LOT (Photo: Susan Lee)
We got a sneak preview of each of the shows, with a couple performances during the party. I'm really excited for The Sound of Music—it looks like it's going to be a fantastic show! Sigh, I wish I could sing...

FASHION | Stylist Box

Last week, I got to check out the Stylist Box showroom and help out at an interview with the fabulous co-founder Gail McInnes for Metro News. Stylist Box connects emerging and established fashion brands with media exposure. Some of the designers include Lucian Matis, Hilary MacMillan and L'momo.

Gail gave us a tour of the gorgeous space and showed us some of her favourite pieces. It was a lot of fun!

MUSIC | The Summer Set

Photo via Facebook
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of tagging along to an interview with The Summer Set for Faze Magazine when they were in town for a show at the Hard Luck Bar. When I got to the venue, there was already a line up of dedicated fans waiting in the freezing cold. Seriously, I'm so impressed by their ability to last so long out in the cold (I asked the first people in line what time they got there and they said noon — the doors weren't supposed to open until 7pm).

If you aren't familiar with their music, here's 'Boomerang' -

MY LIFE | The Ryersonian & Hump Day Heroes

My final semester as a Ryerson journalism student started off with an internship at ET Canada, which lasted six weeks. Once that ended, I had to head back to campus and fulfill six weeks as a part of the masthead of The Ryersonian, a weekly campus publication. Now in my fourth week, it's been an interesting experience.

My classmates and I make up the entire masthead and we each have specific roles. I landed the position of Live Managing Editor, where I manage the live blogs on the website and manage the social media accounts — right up my alley. So it's been a good time. I also work closely with the online managing editor, as well as the rest of the team.

Be sure to check out www.ryersonian.ca to see what we've been working on.
Also, while you're at it, follow us on Twitter & Instagram: @theryersonian

And we also have quite a bit of creative freedom, which is nice. We're encouraged to pursue projects that we enjoy, which led to the creation of Hump Day Heroes. My friend David and I decided to start up our own dating/love advice web video series. Every Wednesday, we answer a question from a Ryerson student, bringing our own opinions as well as other notable Ryerson voices to answer them.

Obsessed with: GIRLS

I've become obsessed with Lena Dunham's television masterpiece 'Girls' and my obsession brought me to the oh-so-hip coffee shop that Ray and Hannah worked at.

During my visit to NYC last month, I made the trek out to Greenpoint to Cafe Grumpy. If you're a fan of the show, you know the spot very well.

FASHION | MADE Clothing

Photo via Facebook
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting the MADE Clothing showroom in Toronto and meeting the company's friendly founder Tomas Romita. With such a fresh and inviting space, I fell in love with the atmosphere and the experience that MADE offers to clients (one of which is Toronto Raptor Amir Johnson).

RiFF RAFF because, why not?

Photo via Facebook
Earlier this month, I got to see the one and only RiFF RAFF live in Toronto. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up....I mean, really though, I just wanted to see what he's like IRL.

PHOTOS | New York February 2014

Via Tumblr
I always try to take as many photos while I'm in NYC as possible. And each time I visit, I always find something new to take photos of — that's another one of the many, many reasons why I love that place so much. New York was made for adventures. Last summer, I documented each week through photos and I'm hoping to start that up again. In the meantime, here are some shots from my trip a couple weeks ago:
