Travie McCoy performs live at NML

Hey everyone!

March 17th was a busy day at New.Music.Live, because not only did Tyler Blackburn stop by, but the one and only Travie McCoy! You may know him from the Gym Class Heroes, but he has gone the solo route and is rockin it.

The awesome Phoebe Dykstra sat down with the tattoed artist, along with his adorable dog, and did a quick interview. Then he took the stage and performed in front of excited fans. He sang 'We'll Be Alright' and 'Billionaire'

I got to see him perform up close and it was so much fun. He knows how to pump up the crowd and shows his personality through quirky dance moves and fist pumping.

Here are some of my photos from his performance!

I was so glad to get his autograph! :)

Hope your March is going well,

Tyler Blackburn at NML!

Hey everyone!

If you're a fan of Pretty Little Liars, you may have seen Tyler Blackburn aka Caleb on Thursday, March 17. I was able to stop by the NML studio and got a glimpse of the PLL star. He did a short interview with NML host, Lauren Toyota, and fans were excited that he was there. There were even fans waiting outside the studio on the sidewalk to see him.

Here are a few pictures I took!

I bet you all are excited for the PLL finale on Monday!

Ryerson Residence Focus Festival

Hey everyone!

On Thursday, March 10, the Focus Festival at Ryerson University took place in the Engineering Building Atrium, and I was really excited for it!

As some of you may not know, I love to sew in my spare time. In a way, it's my stress reliever. But since I wasn't able to bring a sewing machine with me over here to Toronto, I'm glad I remembered to bring a couple of my pieces from home.

So, I entered one of my dresses into the Focus Festival, which is a competition with 4 categories (Fashion, Photography, Design and Film) and last night the awards were given out. Although I didn't win anything, it felt so good to see my dress on the runway for the fashion show portion of the event! Check out these pictures!

Here are some photos of some of the other submissions! Great job everyone!

Thanks for checking it out! I'm inspired to sew more this summer! :)

Behind The Scenes at the Juno Awards

Hey everyone!

As you may already know, the Juno Awards are coming up quickly (Sunday March 27th) and it's going to be it's 40th Anniversary! I'm really excited to be here in Toronto when it's happening, because I know the city is going to be buzzing with excitement and there are going to be some fantastic events.

Already, one of the pump-up events took place on Monday, March 7 on the Ryerson campus at the Rogers Communication Centre (woot woot, my building!) in the Eaton Lecture Theatre.

The event was a panel discussion with some of the faces behind the production side of the infamous Juno Awards. The host was eTalk's Ben Mulroney and the atmosphere was very casual and interactive.

The panel included Stephen Stohn (President of Epitome Productions - Degrassi & Instant Star), John Brunton (President & CEO of Insight Production Compant Ltd - Top Chef Canada, Artists for Haiti, Project Runway Canada), Ed Robinson (worked with both CBC & CTV - Corner Gas, Canadian Idol, Comedy Now!, So You Think You Can Dance Canada), and Joan Tosoni (Award-winning director - Canadian Idol, Battle of the Blades).

The talked about how they got involved with the Junos, their favourite past Juno moments, famous screw-ups, and even about their choice for this year's host, Toronto's own, Drake.
Stephen Stohn praised the former Degrassi star, saying he is "one of the most intelligent people, so wonderful...Little Aubrey Graham."
Overall, it was an interesting discussion and I'm excited to see what this year's show has got in store for us!
Make sure to tune in on March 27 to see Canadian talent rock the stage :)
Thanks!

Dev from The Cataracs!

Hey everyone,

Wednesday, March 2 really was one of the best days of my life. First, I got to see Adele perform up close and one other spectacular thing happened...

Well, if you didn't already know, my other favourite song (besides Rolling in the Deep) is Bass Down Low by Dev and the Cataracs, so I was ecstatic when I found out I would get to see Dev in person at MuchMusic on New.Music.Live
Not only did I get to see her do an interview with Phoebe Dykstra, a host of NML, but I also got to be one of her backup dancers during her performance on the NML stage!! A group of us got to go up on stage with her and dance along as Dev sang Bass Down Low, Booty Bounce, and Like a G6.
It was such an awesome experience and Dev is so cool!
Here are some of the pictures I took!
With Phoebe Dykstra!

Adele on the Canada AM Sound Stage

Hey everyone! Hope you had a great week! I sure did :)

On Wednesday, March 2, I was fortunate enough to be put on the guest list to see ADELE perform live at Canada AM. I wasn't sure what to expect, since I've never been to the CTV studio out in Scarborough, but it was well worth waking up at 6am (we had to be there by 8am).

After getting seated in the small studio, I was in amazed to see that it would be an intimate performance, with a small group of people in the audience. I was in the second row and literally, SO close.

As soon as she entered the studio, I was in awe. She is just so....angelic haha.

Here are some of the photos I took!

She sang one of my favourite songs of the moment: "Rolling in the Deep" as well as "Chasing Pavements."

Then she even did a quick interview!

And as a cherry on top, I got her autograph! :)

Ahhh, she is perfection. If you have never heard her sing, you are missing out!

A Day in the Life of Richard Fellbaum

Hi everyone,

As you know, I am currently attending Ryerson University for journalism and I just thought I'd share one of my assignments that I've completed this semester, which was a lot of fun to do.

We had to spend a day with anyone and observe how they go about their day.

Here goes!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With tea in one hand and clipboard in the other, the man in black from head to toe looks over the list of people he is going to meet for the day.

But for Richard Fellbaum, this isn’t your average meet and greet.

As an audience co-ordinator, everyday his inbox is filled with stories and requests from fans aching to join the audience of CBC’s Steven and Chris, which keeps him busy during his time off set.

But when he is on set, he uses his charm and personality to warm up the audience.

“We’ve got a great show lined up today,” he says. “And your beautiful faces will be shown all over Canada and in the United States.”

Fellbaum, 48, is in his third season with the show, but he is no stranger to the CBC family, having worked on Dragons’ Den, The Hour, and Battle of the Blades before finding his place at Steven and Chris.

Standing calmly in a room filled with beauty products, home decor items and colourful fitness gear, Fellbaum stuffs a large black gift bag with items pulled from the packed shelves.

As he crinkles thin sheets of cerulean blue, lime green and white tissue paper and fills the bag to look like mystery gift on a game show, he says, “This is going to be a boring day for you.”

But what he doesn’t realize is that thousands of viewers would gladly give up their homes (and the entire decor inside) to work with a room full of prizes, weekly guests, as well as one of the funniest duos on television.

Steven Sabados and Chris Hyndman, formerly seen on HGTV’s Designer Guys, have been the faces of Steven and Chris for four seasons, but it seems the success of the show is thanks to a team of enthusiastic people.

And that is where the in-studio audience comes in.

“Today we’re not watching television, we’re making television,” he says.

This audience preparation process proves to be more complicated than simply gathering a group of people to cheer when cued.

In setting up the seats, the configuration needs to be precise and in a specific shape - today’s shape is a “pie” - which requires testing different locations for the cameras, ensuring there is no “dead space.”

And with the bright lights overhead, the orange and white floral printed walls and the cheerful backdrop to the ornate set are illuminated alongside the shelves full of ceramic vases, fake fruit, and leafy potted plants.

Like a mascot at a sports game, audience co-ordinators give everyone that extra pep.

Fellbaum spends most of his time near the entrance of the set and has just as much enthusiasm with and without the microphone. There is no need for a costume to get the crowd going.

“Welcome to Steven and Chris on this wonderful Tuesday morning!”

The audience is immediately drawn into the world that the production crew has put together as Fellbaum’s cheerful voice fills the studio.

Although Fellbaum doesn’t necessarily play a large role in the production process, his skills are demonstrated during the quick turnarounds between segments.

“People tell me things like brain surgery or just recovered from cancer, and I don’t always know if they want it publicized,” he says. “So I kind of just have to feel it out.”

Fellbaum, whose favourite part of the job is meeting new audience members, always makes it a point to shine the spotlight on the most loyal and enthusiastic fans.

The audience in particular for this taping includes the show’s biggest fan, who is celebrating her 80th birthday, and another loyal fan, a cruise ship dancer.

With his arms full of the gift bags he put together that morning, he brings smiles to their faces as he hands them out.

“We even have a celebrity in our audience today,” says Fellbaum.

In fact, Bev Warriner, wife of Todd Warriner, a former contestant on Battle of the Blades, is in the audience with a group of friends.

“Those are the good time girls, here for a good time,” he says.

He knows how to keep the audience in good spirits.

And coming from that infamous prize room, Fellbaum pulls out something familiar from another CBC show.

“Does anyone know what this is,” he says.

And as people exchange puzzled looks, a woman in a red jacket yells, “It’s a banana guard!”

Indeed, the black banana shaped plastic case was a product launched from CBC’s innovative hit show Dragons’ Den.

He scans the crowd.

“My life’s goal is to save the world’s bananas. Does anyone have a banana for me to save?”

Three women immediately hold slightly bruised bananas above their heads, hoping to get a banana guard for themselves.

For a show that started three years ago, with an audience of 20 people, it has come a long way. Fellbaum aims to have 100 people at every Monday to Thursday taping, which is a challenge at times.

But nevertheless, Fellbaum doesn’t fail to bring the audience to life while encouraging them to participate with applause, shouts, or even by taking off pieces of clothing.

“What happens in Studio 65, stays in Studio 65,” he says.

Thanks for checking it out! And thanks to Richard for letting me follow him around for a day!

JWOWW stops in TO

Hey everyone!
On Monday, February 28th, JWOWW from MTV's Jersey Shore brought a huge crowd into Indigo Eaton Centre for a book signing event for her book "The Rules According to JWOWW"

I didn't wait in line to get her autograph, but I stopped by to check it out. It was absolutely insane in that store. With loud music blasting and fists pumping, she knew how to draw in an excited crowd.
Here are a few pictures that I managed to get.

Thanks for checking it out!

For you Non-BCers

Hey guys,

So since I'm home right now, until Saturday, I thought I'd give some of you folks from outside BC a glimpse into a certain area of Vancouver. I took a stroll downtown and wandered around Yaletown, which is a really cool area that has great restaurants and some unique stores.

Celebrities, such as the Twilight cast, have been spotted out and about this trendy area.

Hope you all are having a great February!
