On Set: Degrassi

Photo via Facebook
This summer I've been working like crazy, trying to make money to save up for NYC. The hustle is real. Picking up random jobs here and there can be pretty interesting. Recently, I've been getting into some background work, which brought me to the set of Degrassi.

I used to watch the show back in the day (circa Drake era) so it was cool to get to set foot on location of the teenage television show. I obviously can't share anything about the actual episode, but here are some pics from my general experience.

Stay tuned.

INTERVIEW WITH: Dan Godlin

Photo via Facebook
New York City-based musician Dan Godlin stopped by Toronto a couple months ago for a show opening up for Tyler Hilton at the Hard Luck Bar and I had the pleasure of chatting with him about everything, from his debut album, traveling between NYC & LA, and hearing his songs on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. If you haven't heard of his music yet, get on it!

I wrote an article for Faze Magazine and it's featured in the latest issue, featuring the boys of Degrassi on the cover! Fun fact, Degrassi was the first TV show to feature one of Dan's songs. Cool, eh?

Faze Magazine @ Student Life Expo

Making the big step (or leap) from high school to post-secondary can be stressful and frustrating at times. You want to snap at anyone who asks you "So what are you going to do with your life?" because really, you have no idea. But sometimes it's all about getting out there and trying new things and doing research into what is out there to help you out. Believe me, there are tons of resources out there but it's up to you to find them.

Luckily for you, there are great events that make it a little bit easier. Earlier this month, the Student Life Expo was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, bringing together lots of speakers, schools, and helpful tools to give you the information you need when making those important decisions.

I was at the expo with Faze Magazine, since we had a booth and were the hosts of the main stage. It was a lot of fun - we had free beauty stations all day and even brought some celebrity guests, including some of the cast members of Degrassi.

Free The Children | We Create Change

Hey everyone!

Although the penny may have just been the bit of change at the bottom of your wallet or a bit of good luck here and there, for others, the little copper coin could mean so much more. As Canadians are saying farewell to the beloved penny, charity organization Free The Children isn't letting them go away unnoticed.

I attended a media event at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School on February 4th, which was also the day that Canadian mints officially stopped producing the penny. This event in particular was to announce the amount of pennies that have been collected so far in the We Create Change campaign. The running total? 70 million pennies! Stacked up, that's the height of 170 CN Towers and the weight of 32 elephants....pretty crazy.

Here are a few of my photos from the event:

It's amazing to see young people doing so much to help others out in the world in need.

As a special guest speaker at the Faze Magazine Glow Girl event, Munro Chambers (or commonly known as Eli from Degrassi) made an appearance and got to hang out with some of his awesome fans. The Faze TV team and I did a fun interview with Munro before the event began - keep an eye out for it!

Check out some photos:

He was also interviewed on the Faze stage by the magazine's managing editor Dana Krook - he's hilarious!

Jessica Tyler @ Faze Magazine's Glow Girl 2012

You may recognize her from the hit Canadian series Degrassi as Jenna Middleton but she is much more than just an actress on TV. On the show, Jessica Tyler is often seen with her guitar and is known for her talent and passion for music. And we were fortunate enough to have her perform on our Faze stage at this year's Glow Girl event - and we even got to celebrate her birthday with her! We had the whole venue singing Happy Birthday and she got some adorable cupcakes as well. It was so great to have her there!

The video team and I did an interview with her after her sound check before the event began - it was so nice to meet her! Also, how fab is her glittery outfit!?

She's heading out on tour with Nelly Furtado for the Spirit Indestructible tour in the new year, so keep an eye out for when she might be in a Canadian city near you!

More Faze Glow Girl event posts to come, ft. Scotty James, Shawn Desman, FLTF & more!

MuchMusic Presents: The Big Jingle

On Sunday, Dec. 2 the ACC was filled with fans eager to see some of their fave artists all under one roof. The Big Jingle, presented by MuchMusic, featured a line-up of some pretty big names in pop music right now - Austin Mahone, Cody Simpson, The Wanted and Carly Rae Jepsen, just to name a few. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stick around for the entire show, but here are some of the photos from the sets that I was able to catch:

I just like this photo haha...*note, One Direction was not performing - this was taken before the show started (music videos played on screen while the audience waited)*

MuchMusic hosts T-RexXx, Lauren Toyota and Scott Willats

Coca Cola Covers contest winner Tyler Shaw

Austin Mahone - he also did an acoustic set

Half of the former LMFAO duo: Sky Blu - he even brought along The Cataracs!! (I love The Cataracs, so I'm pretty sure I got the most excited just for their appearance)

Australian cutie Cody Simpson

Shawn Desman

A few Degrassi stars even showed up - Munro Chambers, Luke Bilyk and Annie Clark!

Degrassi in India DVD Launch

Last night (Jan.21), I discovered the fantastic Me To We store in Toronto. I went to the Degrassi in India DVD launch screening at 7:00pm and got to take a look at the store, view the documentary, and meet some awesome people.

Being surrounded by screaming girls was a bit of a drawback, but it was worth it. When we went into the screening room, there were two rows reserved for the cast. As soon as they began entering the room, the shrieking began and flashes went off.

The Degrassi members who made an appearance to the 7:00pm screening (others were there, but left after the first screening at 6:00) were Shannon Kook-Chun, Melinda Shankar, Sam Earle, Luke Bilyk, Ray Ablack, AJ Saudin, and Daniel Kelly.

And after watching the documentary, it looks like such an amazing experience to be a part of. Maybe someday I'll get to go on a trip like that.

Once the screening was over, there was a question and answer session, followed by photos and autographs. We all moved out to the store and it was filled with girls going crazy over getting their pictures and everything before the time was over.

I got a chance to look around the store and everything was so cute! It's fairly new, since it opened just this past November, so it was great to see it for the first time. It was getting ready for Valentine's Day, so here's one of the posters that was displayed:

Keep checking back for an upcoming Me to We (& Free the Children) series of interviews! And check out the Me to We Style website! http://www.metowestyle.com/

Thanks!
