MuchMusic Video Awards [Part 2]

My friend Naomi and I were super excited to cover this year's MMVAs on June 15th. Naturally, we took lots of selfies. It was pretty chaotic the entire night, with the streets blocked off, crazy screaming fans, and such. We mainly stayed in the media room though (photos of the celebs who stopped by HERE) so we avoided being amongst the massive crowds.

Fave performance of the night:

After the awards show, we checked out the Universal Music after party at Maison Mercer, which was pretty rad.

Overall, it was an awesome experience! Peace out, until next year!

I've always watched the MuchMusic Video Awards from my living room couch in Surrey, BC and this year I finally got to see inside the huge Canadian entertainment event up close. I got a media pass for this year's MMVAs to cover it for Faze Magazine and it was pretty cool!

Toronto's First Cat Cafe: Pet Me Meow

Earlier this month, I got to tag along with my friend Takara Small for a shoot featuring Toronto's first-ever cat cafe: Pet Me Meow.

Located upstairs at the RedFish BlueFish Creative Cafe (73 Harbord St), Pet Me Meow had a room set up full of playful and adorable kittens. I met Jeff Ro and Ashkan Rahimi of Pet Me Meow, who gave us the run-down of their latest entrepreneurial venture.

This one was my FAVE. #grumpycat

Their pop-up cafe ran for a few days only, but they're working on opening a permanent location this fall! Keep an eye out :)

On Set: Degrassi

Photo via Facebook
This summer I've been working like crazy, trying to make money to save up for NYC. The hustle is real. Picking up random jobs here and there can be pretty interesting. Recently, I've been getting into some background work, which brought me to the set of Degrassi.

I used to watch the show back in the day (circa Drake era) so it was cool to get to set foot on location of the teenage television show. I obviously can't share anything about the actual episode, but here are some pics from my general experience.

Stay tuned.

MY LIFE | ConGRADulations

Time sure does fly by.

I remember the days leading up to my big move to Toronto—all the high school goodbyes and the excitement of finally getting out of there (Surrey, no hard feelings). Now, four years later, I officially have a Bachelor of Journalism.

It's been a crazy ride. I've met the most talented people, the most genuine people and the most encouraging people throughout my time at Ryerson. Earlier this month, I had my convocation and it definitely felt strange—welcome to the real world. Me, a university grad. Cool, eh?

My parents came from Vancity to spend the day with me in all my gowning glory. I seriously would not be where I am today if it weren't for the support of my family.

And of course my wonderful friends :)

My parents and I went out for dinner at a restaurant that I've never been to and it is literally two minutes from my campus. I've probably walked by it a million times, but little did I know, that it's such a hidden gem: Barberian's Steakhouse. They have a massive wine cellar that we got a tour of before our meal. It was seriously amazing. They hold private events there and house 20,000 bottles of wine....and that's just their red wines apparently (the whites are in another cellar across the street). So I was definitely impressed.

To top it off, Barberian's even surprised me with a ConGRADulations dessert, which was SO delicious.

After dinner, I went out to celebrate with my fellow j-school grads at the Thompson Hotel's 1812 lounge

Thanks for an amazing four years, Ryerson! It's been real.

MY LIFE | ACCEPTED

I cried. I cried a lot.

My dream school has always been New York University. After receiving a rejection letter fresh out of high school, I was pretty bummed that I wouldn't get the chance to pursue life as an NYU student. Instead, I went to Ryerson which, don't get me wrong, was nice and all, but I always felt that I had some weird connection with NYU.

All of my NYC visits included wandering through Washington Square Park, pretending I went to school there (also imagining that someone was going to yell "she doesn't even go here!"). I got a taste of living there last summer for an internship and I even bought an NYU sweatshirt, just for the heck of it....

Getting a master's degree was never on my mind until the days of graduating from Ryerson quickly approached. My family is well aware of my obsession with New York City and suggested that I go to school there if I want to live there so badly. So I sent in my application, fingers crossed.

I received an acceptance letter in an email a few weeks later and I screamed. My neighbours probably thought someone was being murdered. Nope, just the squeals of an ecstatic little girl.

This fall, I'm proud to say that I'll be moving to NYC for the 'Reporting New York' master's program. I don't think it's really hit me just yet.

I CAN'T WAIT. SEE YOU SOON NYU.
