MUSIC | Gov Ball 2015 Line Up Announced!

It's that time of year! The summer's biggest music festivals are starting to release the names of the artists/bands who will be hitting the stages. Since I'm obsessed with NYC, it's no surprise that one of my favourite festivals is The Governors Ball. This year it's happening on June 5-7 on Randall's Island, with headliners including Drake, The Black Keys and Deadmau5! Tickets go on sale Jan. 9th at 12pm EST.

My MTV VMA Red Carpet Experience

Thanks to 1iota (an awesome company that gets fans up close at some of the biggest events), I got the chance to be a part of this year's MTV Video Music Awards action in Brooklyn. I got to be a part of the audience to stand along the red carpet as the stars arrived for the big event. I was super excited. It was a long day, but well worth the waiting in the intense heat amongst tons of other people. I ended up in a pretty good spot and saw some of my faves up close and personal.

It was honestly such an inspiration being there on the carpet across from the journalists who I hope to be someday. My dream would be to be on that side of the carpet, interviewing the stars, rather than just as a fan — but I'm definitely not complaining, I still had an amazing time!

Highlights from the carpet:
- Got a high-five from Robin Thicke
- Saw the legendary Daft Punk
- Breathed the same air as Pharrell
- Witnessed a moment between 2 Chainz and Richard Simmons

In my element...seriously, I was so happy.

Ariana Grande is so adorable. She did a pre-show performance on the carpet. Have you heard her new album 'Yours Truly'?! She's actually so talented.

 Katy Perry

Left: Ciara | Right: Holland Roden

 2 Chainz & Richard Simmons - adorbs
 Rita Ora, stunning as always

Left: Ed Sheeran | Right: Danity Kane

 A$AP Rocky

The one and only Lady Gaga. She had a huge entourage of paparazzi and it literally looked like the seas had parted as soon as she stepped on the carpet. It was madness, and everyone else sort've just moved to the side

Left: Wiz Khalifa | Right: Ronnie from Jersey Shore

 Robin Thicke

Left: Modern Family's Sarah Hyland | Right: Glee's Darren Criss

Left: Legendary T-Boz of TLC | Right: Macklemore

Left: Daft Punk | Right: Jordin Sparks

 Drake reppin Canada

Left: Jimmy Fallon | Right: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, sighhhhh

Left: Selena Gomez | Right: Pharrell (sort've hidden, but he's there!)

Wow, what a night. Although I didn't get to be inside Barclays for the actual show, the red carpet experience was quite satisfying.

Canada's Walk of Fame 2012

Every year, a group of passionate and talented Canadians are selected to become inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame and for a second year, I got to attend the awards gala as a seat filler. Basically, the role of a seat filler is to occupy the seats once the celebrity goes up on stage to get their awards - since they go backstage to do interviews, etc and won't be back to the audience for a little while. So that's where I come in.

Last year, it was the case of 'being in the right place at the right time' and I ended up being able to seat-fill for Sandra Oh...and sit next to Drake and his mom. Oh and I got to be a part of Russell Peters' acceptance speech....the BEST night. (Read the full post HERE)

Check out my cameo below!

This year's inductee's were:
Sarah McLachlan -musician
Randy Bachman - musician
Team Canada 1972 - hockey team
Russ Jackson - football player
Sonia Rodriguez -  ballet dancer
Phil Hartman - actor

Allan Slaight Award recipient:
Melanie Fiona

My friend Terrence and I
This year, I got to sit in for one of the Team Canada hockey players and for Randy Bachman! It's always such a fun experience to get to be a part of an awards show so close to all the action...I mean, when do you ever get the opportunity to sit a couple seats away from Sarah McLachlan (who truly does have the voice of an angel...I was in awe after seeing her perform live) and see Randy Bachman perform Takin' Care of Business WHILE sitting in his seat in the front row at the historic Ed Mirvish Theatre in downtown Toronto?!

Check out some of the very few photos from the event (courtesy of my friend Terrence who had his lovely iPhone, whereas I had my Blackberry...)

You never know what to expect at these events - and it's always so much fun. This year's show will air on October 14th so be sure to check it out!

Canada's Walk of Fame TV Broadcast - Video!

As you may have already known, from my previous posts about my experience at the 2011 Canada's Walk of Fame awards show, which was broadcast on October 23rd, I had quite the interesting opportunity as actress Sandra Oh's seat filler.

Well up until today, I hadn't actually seen the video for myself! So luckily, a friend of mine found it on YouTube and passed it along.

So if you'd like to see my brief appearance on the show, check out the clip below from Russell Peters' acceptance speech (begin at 6:55)

Hope you all are having a great week!

Canada's Walk of Fame

This was a historic day.

It's not everyday that you sit in the front row of the Elgin Theatre at the Canada's Walk of Fame awards night gala filling the seat for Sandra Oh (you may know her as Dr. Christina Yang on Grey's Anatomy)...sitting alongside hip hop icon Drake, comedian Russell Peters, rock star Burton Cummings, astronaut Roberta Bondar, and tennis superstar Daniel Nestor.

But it happened.

I found myself sitting in a seat between Sandra Oh's father and Drake's mother. And with Drake on the other side of his mom...how amazing is that?! I sat there in awe, just watching the presentations on stage, and thinking oh my god, Drake is just one seat over, keep calm.

But that was only one of the highlights of the night...another one happened when Russell Peters got up on stage to receive his award.

And knowing Russell Peters, he was bound to make some sort of racial joke up there. And this one involved me.

After a few thank you's and whatnot, out came the jokes. He glanced at me from centre stage and then said something along the lines of 'they've even replaced Sandra Oh with another Asian! They're even racially profiling the seat fillers now!' and some other witty lines. Be sure to watch the televised show on October 23!

I couldn't stop laughing and some of the people around me started to chat with me. The one and only Roberta Bondar said to me: 'Imagine if he'd asked if you were related!' and shared a laugh after the joke. And I also had a lovely conversation with Sandra Oh's father, who mentioned his other daughter who is currently living in Vancouver.

Once Sandra got back to her seat after doing interviews and stuff, I left the front row and got to watch the remainder of the show from a seat near the middle of the theatre. Still, not bad, considering the tickets to this event ranged from $400-$1200....

After the show, I was able to talk to Russell Peters and Sandra Oh, even getting photos with them! (Sadly, Drake had already left)

Me: Hi, I'm the one you made fun of in Sandra Oh's seat. Thanks for making me a part of the show!
Russell Peters: See what I did for you there!

Me: Hi! I was your seat filler and the one in Russell Peters' joke earlier!
Sandra Oh: Oh I heard about that! How was it? I can't wait to see it.

Overall, it was such an incredible experience.
