EVENT | Tartan Week NYC

I've never been so immersed in Scottish culture than I had about a week ago. First off, I stumbled upon some fun folks promoting a show called Outlander, which apparently is a huge Game of Thrones-type hit. Complete with bagpipes and kilts, they were strolling around Union Square inviting people to a premiere event. Sadly I wasn't able to make it.

Then the next week, I got to go on a shoot for my internship with Stephanie Simon, arts reporter for NY1. On Fridays, she does live hits for the morning show and I got to help out that day for a special feature on Tartan Week in NYC. I had no idea that existed, but it was actually so cool to learn all about it. We went to the Glasgow Caledonian University campus in SoHo and had interviews with the Tartan Day Parade founder Alan Bain, Scottish artist Gerard M. Burns and actor Graham McTavish
.

 Gerard M. Burns
His portraits of famous Scots, including Ewan McGregor and Alan Cumming, are seriously amazing.

Graham McTavish
The 17th Annual New York Tartan Day Parade took to the streets on Saturday, April 11th and Graham McTavish was the official Grand Marshall! For more info on Tartan Week: http://www.tartanweek.com/

  1. I've been to events at other places, but this was my first time in here. Great place. Food at best nightclub nyc was good and seating was very comfortable. Also, very good view from where I sat. This is such a cool venue and the atmosphere was equally amazing.
